The final countdown

This is what I had for breakfast.  Brioche Au Chocolate.  The "bread to my butter and breath to my life." Did I say butter.   Lots of butter!   This is what I'll be giving up starting this Wednesday.

Why would I do something so foolish you might be thinking. While I was raised as a christian, I never participated in lent.  My catholic husband views Lent the same way girls view the master cleanse.  A great way to drop a few lbs.  Last year he gave up booze and lost 10 pounds.  For him it's not just what he gives up but it's a change in his whole mentality.   He doesn't drink on Saturday, goes running on Sunday, eats a salad for lunch on Monday, and you get the picture.  Like the master cleanse it's easy (I've never done a cleanse so I don't really know it's easy) because it's finite.  A cleanse goes for a week and Lent goes for 40 days.

This year he's convinced me to join in on the fun.  I had been dragging my feet until this weekend.  We were in Saratoga for a friends baby shower and decided to take our daughter swimming in the hotel pool.  She is 7 months old and this was her first time "swimming." Ordinarily I'd be all over this event with my camera, until we realized that we would also be in the pictures, in our bathing suits!  This is when I realized that I looked worse now than when I was pregnant.  As you can tell from the beginning of this post, I have a weakness for sweets.  Bakery items and chocolate are my Achilles heel.  That is why I've decided to give up sugar for Lent.

I could just give up chocolate or baked goods, but I know myself.  Like a drug addict I would just find another way to get my fix.  The best way for me to do it is to quite cold turkey and that's what I'm going to do starting Wednesday.

Since I have a few more days I think I'll go eat a mini egg before bed.....
